Your best life awaits!

Let’s take a mental trip to a time you conquered something - like that time you learned how to ride a bike as a kid. Or when you did something for the first time - like jumped into a pool or your first flight or solo trip. How did it feel? Do you remember the thrill, the nerves, the rush, and the power that followed after? Well those are some of the side effects of adventure. Warning: you may feel like you can accomplish anything.
Consider me your dare doctor (no I’m not a real doctor but you can call me Dare Dr. Dani) because I’m going to prescribe some adventures for you. In this article, I would like to share how adventure can stretch us to live our best lives. Through adventure we learn about ourselves, discover newfound strength and gain confidence that translates into other areas of our lives.
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, an adventure is defined as “an exciting or remarkable experience” AND “an undertaking usually involving danger and unknown risks.” Adventure can be both exciting AND nerve wracking at the same time.
You’ve probably heard the saying “get comfortable with being uncomfortable” (Jillian Michaels) because that is when you grow - when you stretch beyond what you are comfortable with, and adventure is a perfect vehicle for that. It is a specific activity and experience that allows you to feel the feelings and learn lessons that you can apply to other everyday life situations.
It is time to create your own adventure in your life. Even though it may be a challenge, it can be easier than you think.
Let’s start small. Here are some adventures you can sprinkle into any day:
Switch up your routine. Change your alarm sound to your favorite song and start your day with a dance party.
Wear something bold. This could anything from a new lip color to sexy undies that are your little secret throughout the day.
Smile and say hello to a stranger. The barista, someone on the elevator, a passerby on the train.
Take the road less traveled. Try a new route home from work or on your day off leave the house with no agenda and no destination. Just wander, explore and see where your heart leads.
Try something new. How about a new restaurant that you’ve been curious about or a new food you’ve never had before?
Learn something. A new skill or hobby.
Any of these can help you expand what you are currently comfortable with and used to and warm you up to the next level of adventure.
Let’s take it up a notch.
If you are feeling stressed, trying yoga can help you relax and surrender to the current moment. Aerial yoga is a fun alternative - the hammock provides extra support for balance, a deeper stretch and cool tricks.
If you are feeling stuck, dancing can help you shake things up.
Boxing can be a great release when you are feeling frustrated.
A game night is a fun opportunity to play and connect with others if you are feeling lonely.
Let’s go for it!
If you are facing a big, long term goal, like debt domination, weight-loss, a savings goal or big purchase, try rock climbing. From this you will learn that big goals are accomplished one small yet consistent step at a time. Here you will gain patience when slow progress gets frustrating and perseverance to push through it gets hard and exhausting.
If you are considering leaving your job or moving to a new city, through flying trapeze you will see how that safety precautions in place like a harness and safety net and doing practice runs can be like savings and supportive friends, mentors and communities and envisioning and mapping out your new situation. Then you can leap with reassurance that you’re supported doing something that is scary yet liberating.
If you are looking for job, go fishing. From this you will learn what it is like to prepare with skill and equipment, like building your resume and sharpening your skills, throw out your lines, or feelers, and see what happens. This is a good opportunity to set your intention and remain open to serendipity. You’ll catch something with patience, and by staying open you increase the possibilities of what can come to you.
To pretty much handle life in general, get on a roller-coaster. Armed with your seat-belt, handlebars and your personal strengths, buckle up and hold on for the ride because there will be ups and downs.
“If you want something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.” Thomas Jefferson
When we expand what we are comfortable with, we open up a new space of possibilities that we can play with. And on the other side of adventure, you'll feel more fun, more confident, more alive and more ready to go after and create your best life.
Try it and let us know how it goes.
May adventure lead you to your best life!
